On March 9, 1995, our seven founding mothers, Elizabeth Choi, Karen Eng, Rei Hirasawa, Hee Cho Moon, Chae Yoo Park, Samantha Somchanhmavong, and Connie Yang came together at Binghamton University with a vision of providing women with the chance to use their pride in heritage to become leaders of society. They recognized the need for an organization of this kind that would provide the community with inspiration and education. With that in mind, these seven extraordinary women brought Kappa Phi Lambda to life. Kappa Phi Lambda has become one of the fastest growing and strongest Asian American interest sororities in the nation.

On November 14, 2004, five young women Gayle Unhjem, Megumi Finnegan, JiaWei Yieh, Julie Phok and Heather Zhang founded Kappa Phi Lambda in the University at Albany community. Through hard work and dedication, these five inspirational women brought to the UAlbany campus an organization devoted to upholding and embracing leadership, service, cultural diversity, academic excellence, and sisterhood. Since 2004, the Sisters of Kappa Phi Lambda's Upsilon Chapter have strived relentlessly to continue the work that our five charters had started. The sisters of Upsilon Chapter have continuously worked to push their limits and raise their standards, always bettering themselves.
